Materra
The Materra tabletop ceramic lamp by designer Tomáš Král combines traditional ceramic craftsmanship with contemporary original design. The project won the prestigious Designblok Award 2026 in the Best Launched Product by Producer category, where the international jury praised its sensitive approach to ceramics, bold color scheme, and technical execution.
The name of the luminaire is derived from the Latin words matter (substance) and terra (earth) — referencing the object’s natural connection to honest raw materials and the earth itself. The lamp's silhouette relies on the clean geometry of an elongated, softly rounded shape inspired by the familiar form of traditional baking dishes.
The body of the lamp consists of two glazed ceramic parts produced using traditional hand-casting in plaster molds. Soft radii, rounded edges, and subtle handcrafted variations give each piece a unique tactile character. Inside, an integrated translucent acrylic diffuser softens the light, creating a warm atmospheric glow. In any interior, the lamp functions as a striking sculptural centerpiece as well as a source of pleasant ambient illumination.
